Marcel Khalife & Al-Mayadine Ensemble November 9 & 10 |
Marcel Khalifé is one of today's leading Arab musicians, reshaping traditional Arab music into an alluring, universally communicative form of expression. His haunting vocals and mesmerizing instrumentals have fascinated audiences worldwide. The Lebanese singer, composer, and oud master was named UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2005 for his artistic achievements and humanitarian work.
Khalifé has been injecting a new life into the oud with his prolific, innovative and groundbreaking compositions. He is a noted composer who is deeply attached to the lyrical text on which he relies. Through his association with great contemporary Arab poets, most notably, the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, Khalifé seeks to renew the character of Arab song, breaking its stereotypes and advancing the culture of the society that surrounds it. |
