ACCESS Celebration Honors Environmental Leaders
Last Wednesday, ACCESS welcomed over 200 community and environmental leaders, public officials, and industry representatives to its 5th Annual Environmental Leadership Celebration. The event was an outstanding success, helping fund ACCESS’ unique environmental programs, and spreading awareness about the pressing environmental issues facing Dearborn and all of Southeast Michigan.

Guest speaker Mohamad Chakaki, an environmental consultant, spoke about the importance of connection to nature for healthy child development, and the challenges future leaders will face with environmental concerns increasingly tied to energy policy and social justice.

Dr. Kathryn Savoie, Environmental Program Director, presented the “Emerging Leader Award” to two exceptional students from the YALLA youth program. Savoie also recognized University of Michigan professor Dr. Bunyan Bryant, highly respected leader in the field of environmental justice, with a special “Lifetime Leadership Award.”

The ACCESS Environmental Program brings a unique and important voice to the environmental community as one of the only Arab-American organizations working on environmental issues in the nation.

Sponsors of the event included: Compuware, Henry Ford Community College, General Motors, and the Michigan Environmental Council
