Family Literacy Program
The Family Literacy Program, an intensive year-round services program, currently provides a variety of classes for adults.  Students, eighteen years old and above in the metro-Detroit area, are welcome to register.  mens esl class

We believe that parental literacy will not only enable parents to move on to higher education, get a job, and give back to their community, but will empower them to build a better life for themselves and their children.  As parents model educational values in their own lives, their children will follow their example.

The overall goal of the program is to improve the educational opportunities of families by:

  • Helping parents become full partners in the education of their children
  • Assisting parents with citizenship and driver’s education training, and providing workforce and literacy training for parents

Adult Literacy  English Classes
To meet the needs of this predominately non-native English speaking community, English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is the primary element of the adult education component.  Currently, classes take place in South Dearborn at the ACCESS Main Office.  Classes are separate for men and women, and sessions run from September thru May.  Instruction is free of charge; however, a $33 fee for books and materials is assessed.

For more information or to join the waiting list, please contact Louise Ramsay at (313) 842-1924.
