ACCESS job fair connects workers with regional employers

ACCESS, the largest Arab American social services agency in the United States, teamed up with more than 40 regional employers to help put Metro Detroit residents back to work during a job fair on June 4.

Roughly 2,500 people participated in the job fair, hosted by the ACCESS Employment & Training Department and sponsored by Detroit Employment Solutions Corps (DESC).

The program took place at Fellowship Chapel on West Outer Drive in Detroit and included representatives from AAA, Meijer, Quicken Loans, the United States Navy, United States Army, U.S. Customs & Border Patrol, the Detroit Police, MGM Grand Detroit, Bank of America, the University of Michigan, Lowe’s and more. Recruiters from Eastern Michigan University, the Detroit Training Center and other educational institutions also took part in the event.

“This was ACCESS’ first job fair in the city of Detroit and the turnout was amazing," said Julio Jamal, supervisor of employment & training at ACCESS. “The feedback from participants and employers was extremely positive, and we look forward to having an even larger job fair in the future.”

Jamal said the goal was to build connections between job seekers of all backgrounds and potential employers.
