The ACCESS Community Health and Research Center (CHRC), in partnership with Karmanos Cancer Institute and CVS and in collaboration with the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Arab community health providers, organized a public health fair on May 30, 2015, in Hamtramck, Mich. to offer information and resources regarding preventive health measures for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“For 44 years, ACCESS has served as a safe haven for the Arab American and vulnerable populations in southeast Michigan. Through culturally appropriate and bilingual services, ACCESS offered a wide-spectrum health fair in Hamtramck full of health and human services for individuals and families,” said Hiam Hamade, CHRC Chronic Disease Prevention Programs Supervisor.
ACCESS collaborates with universities and hospitals to disseminate health information to focus on improving health care for minority populations and to raise public awareness about health issues and disparities in the community. The health fair included breast and cervical cancer screenings, blood pressure tests, pharmacist consultations and numerous other services.
