#ACCESStoGood Story: Life-long giver expands horizons through international health conference

Lauren Hollier

Public Ally and International Health Conference Coordinator | ACCESS Community Health and Research Center

Before volunteering at ACCESS, the idea of coordinating an international health conference had never occurred to Lauren Hollier. Lauren, an amazing industrial artist and accomplished motivational speaker, decided to give it a shot to expand her expertise and help ACCESS share vital public health research with the national and international medical community. With Lauren’s help, ACCESS’ 7th International Conference on Health Issues in Arab Communities was an astounding success.

What compels you to give back?

When I was younger, I was in the Mosaic Youth Theater, and I watched a lot of people volunteer their  time to help me and to help others. Seeing this, and doing service projects through the Children's Museum of Detroit and Mosaic, inspired me to keep giving.

I like to share my talents, and cultivate the love of giving back in others. I’m also a huge optimist, I love to smile and I think that even just sharing my positive attitude with others is a way of giving back.

Why ACCESS?

I began working with ACCESS when I learned about it through Public Allies Metro Detroit. I love learning new languages and learning about new cultures. So, I thought that this would be a wonderful opportunity to expand my horizons and develop some new skills – and it was.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

I am optimistic, smiley and creative.
