DEARBORN, Mich. - ACCESS is pleased to announce the appointment of  its Chief Operating Officer, Lina Hourani-Harajli, to the State of Michigan’s newly created Middle-Eastern Affairs Commission. Governor Rick Snyder’s office announced its appointees last Friday in an official release.

Hourani-Harajli has  served the community through ACCESS, the largest Arab American nonprofit organization in the nation, representing the agency in progressively increasing capacities over the past fifteen years.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan and is involved in a number of community initiatives.

“Lina is a tireless advocate for our community and has contributed significantly to shaping our organization by enhancing our  level of operational excellence and service delivery,” said Hassan Jaber, ACCESS Executive Director. “She will bring a wealth of experience and a remarkable spirit to the Commission - an essential entity that will benefit Michigan’s Middle Eastern communities.”

Hourani-Harajli, of Dearborn, joins fourteen other Michigan residents appointed by the Governor to two, three and four year terms. Hourani-Harajli has been appointed to serve a  four-year term. The Commission, housed within the Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR), will operate in an advisory capacity to the Governor’s Office and the MDCR on issues of economic development, coordination of state services, public awareness and combatting discrimination in Michigan’s Middle Eastern communities. The Commission was created by executive order in February.

“I’m incredibly honored to have been chosen to represent our sizable and influential community at the state level,” said Hourani-Harajli.  “I hope, through my service, that I can contribute to the continued growth and impact of Michigan’s Middle Eastern communities.”
