ACCESS to host launch of third open enrollment period of Affordable Care Act

Press conference to share new information about the uninsured and new Navigator in the area that will provide free, in-person enrollment assistance available in Wayne County

DEARBORN, Mich.—Just two days before the third open enrollment of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) begins, ACCESS will join Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Region V Director Kathleen Falk, Get Covered America, and other local leaders for a press conference to share our plans to assist the public in navigating the Health Insurance Marketplace during the Affordable Care Act 2016 open enrollment period, which begins Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015.

Speakers will discuss how Wayne County residents can get covered through the ACA and highlight opportunities for free, in-person enrollment assistance from anyone who needs help with the enrollment process, including from new Navigator grantee the City of Garden Cities.

Along with ACCESS Executive Director Hassan Jaber, speakers at the conference will include County Executive Evans and Director Falk, Get Covered America Michigan State Director Erin Knott, Detroit Department of Health Executive Director Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Randy Walker, Mayor of the City of Garden Cities, who recently were awarded a grant to provide free enrollment assistance..

ACCESS is in its third year as a Certified Navigator Organization and has served almost 17,000 clients— in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties—in eight languages, including English, Arabic, Bengali and Spanish.  Nov. 1, 2015 marks the beginning of the third open enrollment period of the ACA, which will run through January 31, 2016. During this period, any Michigander who is uninsured, underinsured, or has questions about their coverage options can log on to healthcare.gov or schedule an appointment with a free, in-person enrollment assister by visiting www.getcoveredamerica.org/connector and explore their options.

Following prepared remarks, speakers will field questions from the media. The event is open to the public and the media is asked to RSVP to ensure proper accommodations.
